Berwick Advertiser Thursday, 1st August 2002 Taste Music MUSE Certainly announced themselves in no uncertain fashion with their debut album Showbiz. Bucking the trend they continued that upward curve with the excellent Origin of Symmetry. So I suppose we can allow them a moment to take stock.  That is the essence of Hullabaloo, the first of the 2 CD set is a B-Sides and Rarities compilation. And as is the case with most of these it is doubtful whether it will gain them any new fans. In fact the first three songs should perhaps have stayed rare. It is not until we come across Yes Please and the stunning Map Of Your Head that we dare to believe there are hidden gems rather than just fools gold. The odd "wild toilet escapade" and a battle with alcohol aside, it didn't prove too testing for Muse. So next they're going into space.  It is Friday the 13th and from the back room of Big Sky photographic studios in North London comes an almighty crash. Seconds later, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy and drummer Dominic Howard emerge, wide-eyed but unruffled. "A huge mirror just fell off the wall and nearly hit me and Dom," Bellamy announces. Plymouth Extra Thursday, 15th October 1998 MELODIC three-piece rockers Muse, tipped to be the first Devon band to break through nationally, have signed a promotion deal with Sawmill Studios in Cornwall.   Following their appearances at In The City in Manchester and the 100 Club in London, the band is apparently being hotly pursued by several British and American record companies.   They've even made it into the national music press, with Darren Johns, of NME saying the band is 'exceptional and utterly worthy' of attention.   You can find out why for yourself when they play the Wharf, Tavistock on Friday.   Supporting them will be the (formerly) Leafy chaps of 11:11 and their quirky brand of power pop.   8pm start, entry £3.  (Local Music by ANDREW SEGAL) Link to original article (subscription required to view)

MD: You've mentioned that drummer Dominic Howard of Muse is another recent inspiration.  Mike: Muse is my favorite band of the last few years. Their Absolution CD is easily my favorite of the decade. Dominic's drumming takes the groove and power of a drummer like Dave Grohl and mixes it up to create a sound that, to me, sounds like Radiohead meets Queen. His drumming is powerful yet delicate.  Over the recording of the last two DT records, when I found myself behind the single bass drumkit, I was focusing completely on drawing from Dominic's spirit to create my drum parts. He took the phrase "put yourself into everything you do" and actually added some of his own blood to the red ink used for the lettering.
