(MUSE) Origin of Symmetry (review)

Hailing from untrendy Devon, derided as Radiohead copyists, and faced with a difficult second album, Muse have somehow pulled a huge success out of the bag. Origin of Symmetry takes the twisted rock of their Showbiz album and builds it into an epic sound. Matt Bellamy's obsession with classical baroque music shines through as the songs build and swoop and refuse to follow the simple/verse chorus structure of their contemporaries. There are times when the twiddly extras and drawn out links go over the top, but overall this is a superb album of true progressive rock.
